Although it might not look like it from the weather, summer’s nearly rolled around once again. That week-long heatwave felt like a teaser trailer for summer shenanigans and all you can think about are sun-kissed skin, crop tops and warm beers in festival fields.
Since festival season is the highlight of summer, the perfect packing list is a MUST. Nobody wants to be stuck on a packed train to Reading and then realise you’ve left your essentials in your bedside table. So, from a printout of the line-up to sweat-resistant sunscreen, we’ve got you covered with this festival lifesavers checklist.
1. Lip balm
Dry lips that are in desperate need of something soothing? Not cute. Make sure to pack a high-moisture, high-SPF lip balm to protect your pout, like this Hawaiian Tropic Tropical Lip Balm SPF 45. It safeguards your skin and often-overlooked areas like your nose, ears and cheeks, with calming aloe vera, cocoa butter and vitamins A, C and E.
2. Eye mask
Feel like Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast At Tiffany’s by donning a chic eye mask when it’s time to hit the sack. You’ll thank us when the sunrise is bursting through your tent and you’re sleeping like a newborn.
3. Reusable bottle
Good for the planet? Check. Will keep you hydrated? Check. Can use to decant your booze? Check (although we don’t condone rule-breaking, obviously).
4. Bin bags
Avoid being a trash human by cleaning up your mess and being kind to the environment. Bin bags don’t take up much room and they’re ideal for keeping your campsite tidy, as well as avoiding the dreaded Kopparberg-can pillow. They also have heaps of other uses, like protecting your stuff if there’s a tent leak or acting as a makeshift raincoat.
5. Portable SPF
There’s nothing worse than a red face at a festival, so keep your skin protected and glowing with a handy SPF like Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Air Soft Face Sun Lotion SPF 30. This formula is light, breathable and will fit in your bumbag for mosh pit top-ups. Plus it has broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection — winner.
Safety first, people! Because everyone deserves some summer lovin’ and nobody wants to go home with something nasty.
Pumpin’ electro music at 1am in a festival tent? Ideal. Pumpin’ electro music at 7am while you’re trying to sleep? Not so much. Pack earplugs to safeguard you from rowdy campsite neighbours and blaring speakers.
8. A bum bag
Bum bags are back, people! Work a 90s vibe while keeping all your essentials handy and safe from pickpockets.
9. Portable phone charger
That low battery symbol is a thing of nightmares, especially when you’re mid-moshpit with no clue where your squad is. Pack a portable charger to keep your phone alive and your crew connected.
10. Super-moisturising SPF
Festival sun comes hand in hand with dry skin, and you’ll want to avoid looking flaky while you’re live-streaming Ariana Grande. A super-moisturising SPF will be a lifesaver, protecting you from those pesky rays while keeping your skin looking dewy and gorgeous. Try a high-moisture sunscreen like Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Protective Sun Lotion SPF 30 which will smooth skin and add radiance.
11. Dry shampoo
Seems obvious, often forgotten. Keep those locks looking fresh with ample amounts of dry shampoo. Not only will it keep greasy hair at bay four days in, it’ll also add volume for luscious beachy waves.
12. Hand wipes
Soap is pretty much non-existent in portable loos, and you’ll want to keep clean and fresh in all kinds of muddy festival scenarios. Keep the nasties away by packing antibacterial hand wipes and keeping them close AT ALL TIMES.
13. Printout of the line-up
Keep a handy track of what time and where artists are playing by printing out a copy of the line-up. Your friends will thank you when you’re at the front of the main stage for Kendrick Lamar.
14. Tent flag
Ever stumbled through the campsite, hot and sweaty, with no idea where your tent has gone? We’ve all been there – but you don’t have to. Invest in a tent flag to keep your festival abode in sight.
