Dehradun: The Rajpur Nature Festival kick-started on Saturday at the Christian Retreat and Study Centre in Old Rajpur. The 3-day extravaganza for nature and heritage lovers was inaugurated by CM Trivendra Singh Rawat who also felicitated exemplary citizens of Rajpur for their contribution to the community and society.
Among those who were felicitated were Tsering Chizon Luding, Lallan and Yeshi Kalsang. A brochure on the birds and butterflies of Rispana was also released on the occasion by the CM along with head of forest force Jairaj, senior forest official Sameer Sinha, Mussoorie MLA Ganesh Joshi and Reenu Paul, founding president of Rajpur Community Initiative, organisers of the festival.
The opening day of the fest saw a bevy of events starting with birdwatching and butterfly trails as well as a heritage walk of the Rispana valley. An art competition for children and a puppet show was also organised. Visitors to the fest enjoyed a number of cultural and musical performances besides sampling delicacies from stalls selling various kinds of food items. A major attraction were stalls selling organic and eco-friendly products.
