The 2019 South Bay Festival of the Arts — a gift from the Torrance Cultural Arts Foundation — is history for this year. But the popular event will be back on June 27, 2020. You don’t want to miss it.

More than 4,000 arts-lovers turned out to enjoy an array of vocal and instrumental music, dance and drama, a painting and photography exhibit, vendors with hand-made items, and food and wine from area restaurants and spirits sellers.

Participants engaged in a whirling dervish of activity as they darted here and there to catch the ongoing action on three stages, in eight studios and on the Torino Plaza, following a jam-packed schedule that changed every half hour.

“This festival is getting better and better every year,” said Torrance Mayor Pat Furey. “I think it is now a signature event in the city.”

The mayor hobnobbed with a number of other dignitaries and sponsors in the V.I.P. section, which offered free drinks and a buffet lunch for a $75 donation, along with a cool place to rest between musical performances.

The main draw was the entertainment, but festival goers also enjoyed an art exhibit, vendors of various hand-made items from jewelry to ceramics, and generous “tastes” by area restaurants, wineries and breweries. Festival committee food and drink chairwoman Sherry Kramer has served on nearly every chamber board in the South Bay for years and personally knows most of the 29 participating restaurateurs and wine-and-beer vendors. It’s no wonder their donations were so generous.
