Festivalgoers say they were told just an hour or so before The Kooks were due to perform that their set had been cancelled after frontman Luke Pritchard suffered ‘extreme back problems’.

In a statement posted on the event’s Facebook page, organisers said headliner Deadmau5 had agreed to play an extra 30 minutes as a result.

An official statement from the band said: ‘We are truly upset to not be able to perform at Electric Park this evening . Luke has extreme back problems and is in extreme pain and it is impossible to move around and is in great pain. We are very sorry but it’s important not to make things worse. We thank Electric Park promoters for being so understanding and helpful and we also wish to say to our fans who have come tonight we are gutted we cannot play tonight as we were so excited to be here. Hopefully we will come back to Jersey soon.’

Event organisers Rockit added: ‘We are absolutely gutted, and wish Luke a speedy recovery and a safe journey to the band and crew as they travel back to the UK mainland tomorrow.’

Reggae band Laid Blak had also pulled out of the festival earlier in the week following the death of a family member and close friend. They too promised to be back ‘as soon as we possibly can’.

Thousands of people attended the event, put on by former Jersey Live co-organiser Warren Holt at Howard Davis Park.

It also featured British rockers 10CC.

In response to the Facebook statement, some people called for ticketholders to be refunded because of the cancellations.
