When it comes to culture and historic destinations, Dubai has plenty to offer visitors and residents. And to celebrate it all, a new cultural extravaganza is set to launch this weekend.
Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has revealed it will host the first season of Al Shindagha Days this January, a ten-day festival to coincide with the ongoing Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF).
Kicking off on Thursday January 9 from 5pm until 11pm, the new event aims to introduce to the visitors to the ancient history of Dubai and promote the rich traditional heritage of the Emirate.
Taking place in multiple locations, expect to head to the recently renovated landmark in the Al-Shindagha neighborhood, including Al Shindagha Museum, The Perfume House, The Historical Documents Centre, Saruq Al Hadid Archaeological Museum and the waterfront area in old Dubai.
The ten-day extravaganza will boast a range of cultural and entertainment activities to check out, including local art shows along Dubai Creek, a Majlis presenting traditional stories and plenty of Arabic coffees to sip on – all to put Al Shindagha on the global cultural map.
“Al Shindagha Days provides the visitors an opportunity to explore our heritage. It enables them to see Dubai in the light of global heritage and its important role in shaping the present and the future of the Emirate,” said director general of Dubai Culture Hala Badri.
“This festival sheds light on the local culture and heritage in a new way. It also allows the younger generation to establish a link between the current and the ancient times, by understanding important aspects and values related to the history of Dubai.”
