On the occasion of the 119
th birth anniversary the legendary dancer, Uday Shankar, West Bengal Dance Group Federation in association with Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre is organising a three-day Choreography Festival at a city auditorium. This festival will witness 16 eminent dance groups of West Bengal presenting a colourful bouquet of contemporary and folk dances of our country.The event will be inaugurated by Gouri Basu, director of Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre in the presence of Debjani Chaliha, Mamata Shankar (daughter of late Uday Shankar), Aloke Kanungo, Alokananda Roy and many other stalwarts from the performing arts community during the three-day festival on December 25. The guests of honour on December 26 will be Goutam De, director of Rabindranath Tagore Centre, ICCR Kolkata, and Anup Matilal, director, Rabindra Tirtha. Some of the prominent groups performing in this festival are Mamata Shankar Dance Company, Dancer’s Guild, Srijani, Niharika Centre for Performing Arts, Urmila Cultural Troupe, Sarabhuj, Vibration Dance Academy and many more. “The festival is to encourage youngsters, to spread out our rich cultural bonding, to showcase our creativity through dance. Apart from this, it’s also about paying homage to the legendary Uday Shankar,” said Mamata Shankar.
