Artists and their work will be on display in downtown Eufaula on Saturday.

The Art in the Heart of Eufaula enters its 15th year, and it will offer more than art. The free event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will take place on two blocks on Main Street.

Pam Rossi, executive director of the Eufaula Area Chamber of Commerce and festival organizer, said she expects a good turnout of artists for the festival.

“We hoped to have 20 by the end of week,” she said. “That number gives us a variety of artists. If we get that many, we’ll do well. We’re going to have a lot of local artists. We usually have a pretty good crowd downtown.”

Some of the local artists include Ronald Cossey of Muskogee who makes wooden bowls and Bill McCulley of Checotah with his Indian art on rocks. Artists from around Oklahoma will also display their work and one of them includes Larry Hill of Woodward who designs crystal.

Other artwork to be shown includes clay pottery and photography.

Artists will be vying for cash prizes as well for first, second and third place, Rossi said.

“Judges will be going around critiquing the art work,” she said. “Art will be judged on overall work, creativity and presentation.”

The artwork will be displayed inside and outside of downtown businesses.

“This event promotes art and the businesses,” Rossi said. “Art is a good motivator for people to shop.”

Rossi is particularly excited about this year’s event as she received late confirmation the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile — the hot dog-shaped vehicle — will be in town for the event.

“It’ll be set up by the Bank of Eufaula and something for the kids to enjoy,” she said.

An inflatable bounce house also will be available for kids. Adults will also get to enjoy wine tasting offered by Briar Patch Winery of Porum and Pecan Creek Winery of Muskogee, Rossi said.

The festival also marks the end of the Farmers Market for the season.

“We hope pumpkins, squash and okra will be among the food they will sell,” Rossi said. “There will also be arts and crafts at the market.”

Music will be played throughout the day and provided by Sam Sylvester, Brandt Spivey and Milo Ketchum. They will rotate during the festival.

If it rains, the festival will continue inside the businesses on Main Street.
