Dems Demand Twitter Suspend Trump’s Account Until All Votes Counted

Who didn’t see this coming? My only “shock” is that the Democrats took a whole day to make the call. One Democrat lawmaker tweeted “This is America, not Russia,” demanding, “Suspend his account,” while another called Trump’s Wednesday tweets “a threat to our democracy.”

Got hyperbole, Democrats?

As Fox News reported Thursday morning, Democrats began demanding that Twitter suspend Trump’s account until all ballots are counted after he complained about Democratic challenger Joe Biden’s lead among mail-in ballots and claimed victory for himself in Pennsylvania, Georgia, and North Carolina, with the vote-counting continuing in all three states.

Here’s Trump’s first tweet that sent Democrats into apoplectic meltdown.

Rep. Gerry Connoly (D-VA) promptly tweeted that Trump’s tweet was “pure disinformation.”

A quick look at Trump’s account shows tweet after tweet flagged by Jack Dorsey’s Twitter police; I counted nine, as I was writing this article.

Here’s one that gets right to the point.

And another.

And a third.

Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI) called Trump’s tweets “a threat to our democracy,” and demanded his account should be suspended “until all the votes are counted.”

Rep. Nanette Diaz Barragán (D-CA) took a first-person shot at Trump.

Twitter also flagged this White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany about Trump “winning” Pennsylvania.

And a tweet by Eric Trump claiming the same.

In a Monday tweet prior to the election, Twitter Support “reminded” us about how the social media platform planned to handle tweets about the election.

“A few weeks ago, we announced how we will handle Tweets about US election results. We want to remind you what to expect and share a preview of the labels we may apply.”

You ‘spose they had “anyone in particular” in mind?

In the early-October announcement, titled Additional steps we’re taking ahead of the 2020 US Election, the San Francisco-based company “almost” appeared to be primarily focused on Trump.

Twitter plays a critical role around the globe by empowering democratic conversation, driving civic participation, facilitating meaningful political debate, and enabling people to hold those in power accountable.

But we know that this cannot be achieved unless the integrity of this critical dialogue on Twitter is protected from attempts — both foreign and domestic — to undermine it.

We do not allow anyone to use Twitter to manipulate or interfere in elections or other civic processes, and recently expanded our civic integrity policy to address how we’ll handle misleading information surrounding these events.

Under this policy, we will label Tweets that falsely claim a win for any candidate and will remove Tweets that encourage violence or call for people to interfere with election results or the smooth operation of polling places. More specifically:

  • People on Twitter, including candidates for office, may not claim an election win before it is authoritatively called. To determine the results of an election in the US, we require either an announcement from state election officials, or a public projection from at least two authoritative, national news outlets that make independent election calls.
  • Tweets which include premature claims will be labeled and direct people to our official US election page.
Tweets meant to incite interference with the election process or with the implementation of election results, such as through violent action, will be subject to removal. This covers all Congressional races and the Presidential Election.

It’s “almost” as if Twitter’s announcement was a manifesto directed primarily at Donald Trump. While some of Trump’s tweets have been questionable, is it the job of social media to censor his tweets? Particularly given the “progressive” ideology of Twitter’s Jack Dorsey and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg? I think not.

After all, as my RedState colleague Sister Toldjah reported earlier, They Just Keep ‘Finding’ Ballots to Count in Georgia, and It Doesn’t Make Any Sense.

And ass my colleague Shipwreckedcrew reported in an article titled There Is A Role for the Department of Justice In Addressing Election Process Fraud and Attorney General Barr Needs to Step Up, for example, perhaps the concern of Trump and millions of Trump supporters over potential election shenanigans is well-founded.
