Another major music festival will be making its debut in Chelmsford this summer.

V Festival came to an end in 2017, 21 years after it first appeared at Hylands Park. It quickly became one of the biggest and most popular festivals in the UK.

RiZE Festival took its place in 2018 but only lasted one year, and 2019 saw the Dixie Fields Festival make its first appearance on land bordering the famous park.

But this year, there’s a huge new music festival coming to the city that people are getting excited about.

The Hideaway Festival will welcome some of the biggest names in music and will give fans from far and wide the chance to dust off their dancing shoes this summer.

Here is everything you need to know about Chelmsford’s The Hideaway Festival:

The legendary Welsh superstar Tom Jones is topping the bill and will headline the Saturday night of the festival.

Fresh from his current role as a superstar coach on The Voice, fans old and new can expect a wealth of hits from Tom Jones’ back catalogue, including What’s New Pussycat?, Delilah, It’s Not Unusual, Sex Bomb and many more.

A whole host of other big music names have also been confirmed to take to the stage this August, including cultural icon Grace Jones who will top the bill on the Sunday night.

Her performance will offer a rare opportunity to delve into the mind of one of the world’s true cultural superstars.

The event will also feature whisky-voiced titan Macy Gray to the line-up along with Beverley Knight, fresh from a stint in the West End.

The Hideaway Festival Stage will also see performances from soulful favourite Sinead Harnett, and party starters Brooklyn Funk Essentials.

The Den Stage will be the place to catch some hot jazz talent. Opening up the genre to a new audience, the Ezra Collective will take to the stage fresh from sell-out shows across the globe.

A new festival is coming to Chelmsford

Modern afrobeat pioneers Kokoroko could claim a spot as one of the festival’s favourites, blending style and charisma into one magical mix on The Den Stage.

Representing the bustling world of electro-swing, Caravan Palace also join the list of names for Hideaway 2020, alongside The James Taylor Quartet.

Offering festival-goers the chance to get away from it all, The Retreat Stage will be a sanctuary on the festival site.

Leading the charge is blues legend Eric Bibb, who is making a rare stop-off in Chelmsford.

Alongside him will be Big Daddy Wilson, whose emotive blues songs should resonate greatly with the Hideaway audience.

When and where is the festival?

The festival will take place in August on Friday 14, Saturday 15 and Sunday 16.

It will be based on the land near Hylands Park off Greenbury Way, rather than in the park itself.

What do the organisers say?

Organiser Roy Trickett said: “Hideaway Festival has been in the planning process for two years and I felt that there was a need and a gap in the market for Essex

“We’ve worked hard to create a festival that is friendly to all with a relaxing and entertaining vibe perfect for families. This is a labour of love that we can’t wait to show off this August.

“Split between three stage areas, the Main Stage being more soulful, The Den Stage focusing on jazz and lastly the Retreat Stage focusing on blues – there’s truly a whole range to explore at Hideaway.

“We are delighted that Tom Jones, Grace Jones, Macy Gray and Beverley Knight to name but a few will all be joining us for our inaugural weekend, bringing some incredible performances that I know we’ll be talking about for years to come. See you all there!”
