Festival International de Louisiane today announced an all-new Visual Artist selection process to honor the upcoming 35th Annual event.
Rather than selecting one Official Artist for next year, Festival will bring together multiple artists with diverse backgrounds and mediums to create a piece of commissioned artwork that is unifying and unique.
“We have been working nonstop planning for Festival International 2021 during these bizarre times. And though we are not exactly sure what our event will look like next year, we do know that we need art, music and unity now more than ever,” says Carly Viator, Marketing Coordinator of Festival International. “As the entire world enters a new era, Festival International is using this time to get inspired, bend with the changes, and to hone in on our mission and goals as a cultural arts organization.”
Festival believes that by coming together, its fans, artists and organizers can rise above these challenges to manifest something even greater than before.
Festival’s mission is to “Enrich the community with a celebration of its native cultures through performing arts.”
In 2021, the theme will focus on the mélange of art, music, and love for people and cultures that Festival International brings to Lafayette, and the world. This collaborative artwork will light the way for a pivotal era and will reflect on these themes of creativity and positivity.
The selected Official Visual Artists will be commissioned to create a piece that is used as the visual inspiration for Festival’s 2021 collector pin, poster, shirts, and other merchandise. In addition, the artwork guides the overall visual vibe and theme of the event.
Festival’s organizers say they are excited about this collaborative process and to see what the group of artists come up with after such a crazy year. Their team wants to hear from local Louisiana artists that understand the magic of Festival International and feel enlightened to create a powerful piece. The group of artists for 2021 are encouraged to explore change, growth, awareness, togetherness, and optimism. You can apply as a group OR as an individual looking to join a group.
The deadline to submit conceptual sketch and application is November 25th at midnight. Upon selection, artist(s) will have 2 weeks to finalize the sketch of their concept. After approval, the commissioned artwork is to be completed within 4 weeks from then.
