Downtown Riverside will be taken over Friday evening, Nov. 29, by the switch-on ceremony for the Mission Inn Hotel & Spa Festival of Lights.

Street closures will effect University Avenue, Mission Inn Avenue, 6th Street, 5th Street, Orange Street and Lemon Street in the downtown area. The 91 Freeway westbound off-ramp to Mission Inn Avenue will be closed from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.

A ceremony starting at 4:30 p.m. will include a Christmas performance by a tribute to the Rockettes from West Coast Music, located in Beverly Hills, according to the Mission Inn.

Then, at 5:15 p.m., the family of owners Duane and Kelly Roberts will count down and “flip the switch” to turn on more than 5 million holiday lights. A four-minute-long fireworks show choreographed to holiday music will conclude the ceremony, according to a Mission Inn news release.

The festival, which continues until Jan. 6, will include 400 animated figures including angels, elves and carolers; the world’s largest man-made mistletoe under the Campanario; and an animated light tree programmed for a four-minute magical animated display, the release said.
