Fight the cold and raise money for the kids at annual festival and chili cook-off competition

Hold that handmade ceramic bowl of warm, spicy chili close at this year’s SoNo Fest & Chili Cook-Off in North Park. This annual event is run by volunteers and raises money for Spanish, arts, music and gardening programs at McKinley Elementary School. More than 30 restaurants will present their best tastings of chili with two dozen craft beer, wine and spirits vendors in the designated beer garden. The day also includes dozens of local vendors with handmade goods for sale, a food truck court in case you’re not a fan of chili, live music on three stages, and an area with activities for kids. Get your unique ceramic bowl from San Diego Ceramic Connection on Friday or Saturday before the event, or on the day of the event at the SDCC location on Thorn Street (the bowls are not available for purchase online or at the festival).

SoNo Fest & Chili Cook-Off: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. 32nd and Thorn Streets in San Diego. $17-$22.
