Event raises money, awareness for affordable mental health services for Treasure Coast youth

With youth anxiety, depression and suicide rates skyrocketing, recognizing the importance of accessible and affordable mental health services is more important than ever.

One Treasure Coast nonprofit, Tykes & Teens, has been prioritizing children’s mental health in the community for 23 years and has provided services to more than 40,000 children.

How does the organization accomplish such a task? With help from a generous community.

For 12 years, Tykes & Teens has been kicking off the holiday season in Stuart with its signature fundraiser, the Festival of Trees & Lights, which features a dazzling display of decorated trees, wreaths and holiday décor.

This year’s festival will be the largest yet, with more than 75 items on display and available for raffle, silent, or live auction. The festival is made possible through the support of many tree, wreath and holiday décor donors, sponsors like Searcy, Denney, Scarola, Barnhart & Shipley, Attorneys at Law, and friends like The Kling family of Kling Gallery Wine & Décor. Additional major sponsors include Sonas Home Health Care, Coral Shores Behavioral Health, David Smythe, Commissioner Ed Ciampi, and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Mondello.

The festival runs from Nov. 17 to Nov. 23 at Flagler Place, 201 S.W. Flagler Ave. in Stuart and is open to the public at no cost from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday to Friday, and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Special ticketed events throughout the week include Joy to the Girls! Ladies Night, Afternoon Champagne Tea and Tiny Tot Fashion Show, and A Not-So-Silent Night Strolling Supper & Live Auction. The week wraps up with the very popular and always free Breakfast and Photos with Santa from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Nov. 23.

This event is a holiday gift to the community from Tykes & Teens and festival sponsors who believe that, just as every hurting child deserves access to quality mental health care, every child also deserves the chance to meet Santa and experience the joy of the holiday season.
