Jon Ossoff Hands Republicans a Gift in Georgia Senate Runoff Races (Watch)

Last week, President Trump tweeted out his support for incumbent Georgia Republican Senators Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue and encouraged his supporters to ignore calls to boycott the January 5th Senate runoff races where Loeffler and Perdue will face off against Democrats Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff respectively.

“…we must get out and help David and Kelly, two GREAT people. Otherwise we are playing right into the hands of some very sick people,” Trump said Friday.

Though Trump plans to visit the state on December 5th to help motivate voters to get to the polls and show their support, Republicans received an unexpected gift earlier today from Ossoff during an interview he did with CNN’s Dana Bash.

Towards the end of the segment, Bash asked the failed Congressional candidate his thoughts on Sen. Bernie Sanders’ endorsement of his campaign, which Sanders tweeted out on Saturday:

After Ossoff declined to weigh in on Sanders’ bid to be Labor Secretary in a Biden-Harris administration, Bash pressed him on whether or not he would welcome Sanders coming to Georgia to campaign on his behalf. Here was his response:

“We’ll see. I haven’t had that kind of discussion with him. But I welcome his support. And again, look, I think that his advocacy for ensuring that health care is a human right in this country, for putting the interest of working families over corporate interests, is welcome, is necessary, is appreciated. And so is his support.”

Other Democrats have handed Republicans gifts in these two Senate races in recent weeks as well.

The Saturday after Election Day, Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer took to the streets in New York during a Biden-Harris “victory” rally to proclaim total domination was within reach. “Now we take Georgia, then we change the world,” he declared to a cheering crowd that was not social distancing. In the very next sentence, which he uttered after putting his mask on, Schumer warned promised, “Now we take Georgia, then we change America!” The NRSC promptly cut a political ad off of it.

A week later, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) inadvertently did her part to make Schumer’s dreams of becoming Majority Leader much more difficult when she told CNN’s Jake Tapper that she planned on doing everything she could to help Warnock and Ossoff win on January 5th.

“I’m going to be spending my next couple of months doing everything that I can to extend help and offer support to the work of fantastic leaders that we just heard from like Stacey Abrams to make sure that we don’t have a Republican Senate majority, that we win these races in Georgia, that we secure a Democratic Senate majority so that we don’t have to negotiate in that way,” the admitted socialist told Tapper.

The NRSC was quick to put out ads featuring AOC’s comments.

As many astute political observers including Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume have pointed out, even if it is determined that more Georgians voted for Joe Biden than President Trump, “it’s doubtful they wish to ‘change America’” in a way that would make Schumer and Ocasio-Cortez happy campers.

As I’ve noted before, the stakes in the two Georgia Senate runoff races could not be higher. As of right now, Republicans are ahead 50-48 in the battle for control of the Senate in 2021. If Loeffler and Perdue win, that makes it a 52-48 advantage. If they don’t, the Senate will be tied at 50-50, and in the event the Biden-Harris campaign wins the election, that would give Harris the tiebreaking Senate vote.

This is why we need hardcore leftists like AOC and Schumer and Sanders to keep talking, and Ossoff to keep goofing up. Because the more they do, the better Republican chances are to hold the line.
