Los Altos Festival of Lights Parade canceled ahead of storm

LOS ALTOS — The rainy winter storm barreling into the Bay Area this weekend has forced organizers to cancel Los Altos’ Festival of Lights Parade.

The parade had been planned for Sunday. Now fans of the event will have to wait until 2020.

“This is not a decision we made lightly,” organizers said in a Facebook post. “Our all-volunteer committee has put hundreds of hours of work into this year’s event, and we are tremendously disappointed to not be able to share it with our community.”

Parade officials said the rain, which arrived late Saturday morning and was forecast to continue through the weekend and beyond, could damage their delicate floats.

“Our commitment to future successful parades means that we simply cannot put (the floats) at risk this Sunday,” festival officials said. “We look forward to showing them off next year, and for many years to come.”
