HARLAN, Ky. (WYMT) – An Appalachian tradition passed down for years, people from all across the region making homemade crafts.

While many are out black Friday shopping to try and get the best deals, thousands decided to come to the Mountain Masters Festival in Harlan to buy items you cannot get at just any store.

“It is a great gift to have because it came from the area, from the region,” said John Marcum, who was a vendor at the festival.

Not only are you finding the most unique gifts for family and friends but you are also helping grow the local economy.

“When you actually come out, you are helping another family, you are supporting your local teams, your local churches, and your local organizations,’ said Executive Director of Harlan Tourism Brad Pennington.

Hoping to continue keeping this mountain tradition going for years to come and high lighting the art that makes this region so special.
