Manchester International Festival is bringing a FREE music festival to Wythenshawe

Manchester International Festival is hosting a one off music festival in Wythenshawe– and its totally free.

‘Rhythmshawe’ will take over the Wythenshawe Forum library for one day this month to celebrate the area’s musical talent.

Revellers will get the chance to try songwriting, beat-making and DJing.

As well interactive workshops there will be live music performances, dancing and a live radio broadcast on Reform Radio.

A ‘Stories in Sound’ where music lovers can share the personal stories behind their favourite songs, is also on the line-up.

Rhythmshawe has been created by a group of young Mancunians as part of MIF’s Festival in My Neighbourhood series and Manchester Libraries’ Creative Spaces programme.

The collaboration supports young people host arts events for their local community.



The festival will take place at Wythenshawe Forum on February 15

Rhythmshawe will take place at Wythenshawe Forum Library on 15 February from 12pm till 4pm.

The event is free but tickets must be booked in advance.

Creative Spaces’ Creative Producer, Beth Powell, said: “Working with this group has been fantastic!

“They have a great energy and brilliant ideas. I’m really proud of the hard work and commitment they are putting into this event and their community spirit.

“It’s going to be a really fun, vibrant and sensory experience for the community to enjoy.”

Rachel Roger, Director at Reform Radio said, “It’s been fantastic to work collaboratively with Creative City and MIF to create this special one-off celebration.

“Working alongside experts from within these arts organisation has added such value to the experience, skills development and outcomes of the programme.

“The young people involved have created an exceptional body of work. We’re so excited to see it all brought to life.”

Sheereen, a young person involved in creating Rhythmshawe said “It’s been nothing like I expected.
