The Metropolitan Opera has announced its first online Family Holiday Festival.
The festival will run from Dec. 17 through Dec. 21, 2020 and will include a free, all-virtual festival which will be presented across five days.
The festival will open with a complete performance of a holiday favorite, Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel” streaming for free.

“Getting to Know ‘Hansel and Gretel’” will give an in-depth look at the operatic interpretation of this classic story with music educator Timothy Brendler.

Professional clown Stephanie Sine will lead families in a special craft inspired by Hansel and Gretel’s adventure into the woods.
Streaming Date: Dec. 18, 2020
“Kids in the Kitchen” will showcase New York Times food writer Melissa Clark and countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo guiding families in baking Deep Dark Fudgy Brownies, a recipe from Clark’s new cookbook, Kid in the Kitchen.
Streaming Date: Dec. 19, 2020
“Creative Carols” will feature Actor and songwriter Joel Waggoner leading a session on how to compose music and write lyrics for carols that are inspired by our own holiday traditions.
Streaming Date: Dec. 20, 2020
To celebrate the Winter Solstice, musician and educator Goussy Célestin will share how music and stories have helped us understand the passage of time.
Streaming Date: Dec. 21, 2020
To conclude the festival there will be a dance party and holiday celebration for the entire family via Zoom.
