GAYLORD, MI – The Michigan Snowmobile Festival is all about exactly what one would expect: riding snowmobiles on Northern Michigan’s pristine trails.

This year’s event, nicknamed “Michigan’s Richest Snowmobile Fun Run,” has been extended to a two-day event with more stops. It’s scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Feb. 21-22, in Gaylord.

“Gaylord is one of the best snowmobile destinations in Michigan and we want to celebrate that,” said Paul Beachnau, executive director of the Gaylord Area Convention and Tourism Bureau.

Gaylord is listed by Pure Michigan as one of the top eight snowmobiling destinations in the state. The location “perfect” because it’s in Northern Lower Michigan’s Snowbelt and averages over 180 inches of “fluffy lake-effect snowfall” annually, according to Pure Michigan.

The free fun run, which can be completed individually or during a guided group ride, includes 10 stops that participants can visit for chances to win gift certificates and cash prizes. The guided ride will start at 10:30 a.m. at the tourism bureau, 319 W. Main St., on Saturday. Slips can be dropped off at businesses until 5 p.m. Feb. 22.

This year’s stops are: Beaver Creek Resort, Treetops Resort, Paul’s Pub, Big Buck Brewery, Belle Iron Grille, Porter Haus, Mama Leone’s, Corwith Station, The Keg Bar and Elkhorn Grill.

Participants can pre-register online at gaylordmichigan.net or stop by the tourism bureau office from noon to 6 p.m. on Feb. 21 or 8 a.m. to noon on Feb. 22. All registrants must pick up their map and stop slips during those hours. The first 100 to pick up their packet will receive a free hat or t-shirt.

Beginning at 5 p.m. on Saturday, the public is invited to the Eagles Hall at 515 S. Wisconsin Ave. for live music with Straight Shooters, beverages and snacks. Gift certificate drawings will begin at 6:30 p.m. Cash drawings for $1,000, $500 and $250 will start at 8:30 p.m.
