The film’s lead actor Nivin Pauly, who played the character of Akhar/Bhai, congratulated the trio on their win. Geetu, meanwhile, posted on her social media page, “So proud of you Shashank and Sanjana.”
The movie, which was also the closing film at Indian Film Festival of Melbourne last month, also won two awards at the Indo-German Film Week 2020 in Berlin in October. Roshan Mathew was chosen as the Best Supporting Actor while the movie won the Audience Choice Award.
In August, Moothon won three awards at the New York Indian Film Festival, with Nivin Pauly being adjudged the Best Actor, Sanjana Dipu the Best Child Actor and the movie the Best Film.
It was Nivin’s first international award and the actor was delighted by the honour. “I am extremely happy because it’s my first award in an international forum and getting it from the New York Indian Film Festival is great. I want to thank the jury and my director Geetu Mohandas for believing in me and pushing me hard towards a path I have never walked before,” he said, after receiving the award virtually.
