As it has been for some time, when it comes to the issue of impeaching President Donald Trump, the American people just aren’t on board.
According to The Hill, a new poll out of Quinnipiac University found that while approval for Trump’s impeachment has raised a whopping two points, the majority of Americans do not agree with the Democrats that it’s the way to go:
The new poll from Quinnipiac University, released Wednesday, finds only 37 percent of registered voters say Trump should be impeached and removed from office, with 57 percent of respondents saying he should not be impeached.
The poll was conducted from Sept. 19 to 23, as Trump was embroiled in a controversy stemming from a call he had with the Ukrainian president, and the results come just a day after Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced that House Democrats were launching a formal impeachment inquiry into Trump.
The findings closely mirror results from a Monmouth University poll conducted last month before the Ukraine phone call controversy. That survey found 59 percent of voters were against impeaching Trump, with 35 percent of respondents backing the move.
This low opinion of impeachment has been steady across the board. In July, a Rasmussen poll showed that only 11 percent of Americans believed Trump would face impeachment, which had trended down from 29 percent in December of 2017. Between that year and now, the media has attempted to throw everything and the kitchen sink at Trump in order to stir feelings of impeachment among the populace, but have had no luck. It consistently remained low.
As before, this move toward impeachment is actually a big showing of the Democrats hand. They continuously try to find ways to have Trump booted out of office before the election takes place, or at least mire him in controversy during the elections. This is because the Democrats have next to no faith in their chosen candidates, and if we’re all being honest, you can’t blame them.
But this recent poll should indeed worry the Democrats further. While the Democrat base is fully on board with impeachment proceedings, Republicans and Independents are against it in their majorities. This should signal that they aren’t going to attract anyone else, and may even serve to repulse potential voters further.
What’s more, Trump seems to be welcoming this battle. He’s already fundraising off of it and even had a video ready to go once the impeachment proceedings were announced.

Judging by the numbers, this is one of the worst moves the Democrats could have made.
