Attorney Lin Wood, along with his comrades, are getting a gigantic rebuke from the MAGA crowd and Republican Party for their push to let the Democrats take control of the Senate due to their perception that conservative officials aren’t doing enough to fight for President Trump and ensure the integrity of Georgia’s upcoming runoff election. But according to reports, President Trump recently told Wood to “knock it off” in a private phone conversation.
Axios initially reported on the phone call, noting that Wood and attorney Sidney Powell “are telling Georgians not to vote for Republicans David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler because of a baseless and self-defeating theory: It’s not worth voting because the Chinese Communist Party rigged the voting machines.”
A source close to the president told Axios, “The president directly communicated to both Powell and Wood [yesterday] the importance of re-electing Perdue and Loeffler, and believes his traveling to and campaigning in Georgia this weekend will make clear what MAGA voters should be doing.”
Politico also reported on the phone call: “Amid party fears that a MAGA boycott could cost them control of the U.S. Senate, Trump privately spoke by phone this week with Wood to tell him to “knock it off,” a source briefed on the discussion told POLITICO.”
The phone call comes amid widespread condemnation of Wood, Powell, conservative operative Ali Alexander, and other leaders advocating for Republican voters to boycott the Georgia election, which will determine which party controls the Senate. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich recently slammed the movement, accusing them of trying to get attention.
“They understand that if they’re out there saying more and more radical things, they’ll get more publicity,” Gingrich told Politico. “It’s one of the nuttier things I’ve seen in a long time in politics.”
The former speaker on Thursday posted a tweet calling out Wood and Powell, calling them “totally destructive” and insisting that “Every Georgia conservative who cares about America MUST vote in the runoff.”
Breitbart News has also target Wood for criticism. The recently published a piece titled ““Grift Wood: ‘MAGA’ Poseur Goes for Sabotage in Georgia,” in which they implied that the attorney is doing the Democratic Party’s work and outlining his contributions to former President Barack Obama’s campaign in 2014.
The Trump campaign’s Twitter account retweeted the article. Wood retaliated by calling Breitbart News “dishonest” and highlighting his donations to Trump and other Republicans. Gateway Pundit was one of the few who came to Woods’ defense with a piece titled: “WTH? Breitbart Wages War Against Attorney Lin Wood — Who Is Defending President Trump Against Evil Marxist Horde.”
At this point, it appears that the adults in the room have roundly repudiated the nonsensical effort to persuade conservative voters to stay home during the runoff election. Giving the Democrats the Senate to preserve election integrity would be like citizens of the U.K. letting Nazi Germany conquer them because they were dissatisfied with Parliament. It is a foolish movement borne of valid anger to be sure, but promoting irrational moves isn’t going to be positive for anyone.
