RICHMOND, Ind. — It rained pretty much all day Friday, but the clouds parted in time for snow to fly during the evening at Jack Elstro Plaza.
A soggy, warmer-than-usual night did little to deter turnout for the Meltdown Winter Ice Festival’s annual “Big Reveal” event.
Mayor Dave Snow once again played emcee for the festivities as world-class ice carvers worked together over three 10-minute rounds to produce a single display.
The showcase of skill with chainsaws, power tools and even a flamethrower kept the crowd guessing as to what the final sculptures might be.
In the end, the carvers’ work came together with an Asian theme, as a dragon, samurai and castle dominated the stage.
