On December 11th, 2019, Samsung Canada hosted media and members of the film industry at the Samsung Experience Store, CF Toronto Eaton Centre to celebrate the Toronto International Film Festival’s (TIFF) Canada’s Top Ten. Each year, TIFF announces the official selection of the Canada’s Top Ten theatrical screening series compiled by TIFF’s team of programmers in collaboration with film programmers and critics across the nation. The list — comprised of 10 features and 10 short films — reflects a richness of voices, perspectives, and insights from some of Canada’s finest established filmmakers as well as emerging directorial talent from coast to coast.
As part of Canada’s Top Ten, Samsung and TIFF highlighted the work from Canadian filmmakers through an immersive cinematic viewing experience alongside an intimate panel discussion hosted by entertainment TV personality, Teri Hart, and moderated by TIFF artistic director and co-head, Cameron Bailey. Exceptionally talented Canadian filmmakers joined Samsung and TIFF for a thought provoking discussion, including Sophie Deraspe, director of Antigone, and Calvin Thomas and Yonah Lewis, directors of White Lie.
Both educational and engaging, the elevated setting provided guests an in-depth look into the art of filmmaking through superb screen technology that was complemented by the culinary creations of chef, Afrim Pristine, from the Cheese Boutique. As film lovers, we know nothing beats immersing oneself in incredible content and in partnership with TIFF, Samsung wanted to create a home away from home for attendees to view the best in Canadian film on big screen TVs.
To showcase the panellists’ films, Samsung leveraged its QLED 8K TV for an entertainment experience like no other. Film content was also displayed on The Wall to amplify picture quality and surround sound to fully transport attendees into the world of film. The Wall redefines what it means to deliver an outstanding viewing experience, and TV connoisseurs and film buffs alike will appreciate the incredible picture quality on a breathtaking scale.
Film and television history has been a remarkable march from standard definition to HD to 4K and now Samsung is again leading the way as the first to bring 8K to the market. During the event, The Wall was displayed alongside QLED 8K to provide a larger than life experience for guests, showcasing the latest movies from Canada’s top filmmakers and demonstrating how a cinematic experience can also take place in the comfort of your own home.
As a brand committed to innovation, Samsung is proud to help showcase and celebrate the power of creativity and the Canadian filmmakers that aspire to pursue, capture and share their passions on-screen. Samsung is proud to offer products that provide experiences for film lovers and fans through state-of-the-art design and functionality, offering an amazing opportunity to enjoy great cinema.
