The 22nd Sarasota Film Festival is March 27- April 5.

The Sarasota Film Festival’s newly unveiled movie poster for its upcoming 22nd anniversary event, taking place March 27- April 5, explores the idea of 2020 vision.

The design is by artist Najla Abuesba, who is from London where she obtained a degree in fashion journalism before working in public relations for five years. During the course of her academic career, she created a political fashion magazine where she honed her skills in graphic design.

The artistic approach of the movie poster comes in the form of an eye chart with key symbols and words that highlight important social movements that the festival said needs to be visible in today’s cinema. These include the support for diverse filmmaking, LGBTQ+ representation and global efforts to reduce the carbon footprint. All of these elements are incorporated in an artistic eye chart that reveals the countless ways for stories to drive change and encourage a deeper look into the perception of society.

“As the film industry matures over the last many years, it becomes increasingly important that we recognize the vision and spirit of filmmakers who have allowed us to better understand our own lives and the global condition with more clarity,” said Chairman and Co-Founder of the Festival Mark Famiglio, in a statement. “This year the SFF vision poster represents the simplicity of text and yet underscores the complexity of our social dynamics and communication within the U.S. and around the world, demonstrating various and many dimensions to this poster just has there are many dimensions to a seemingly simple film.”
