A Devon town is set to host what it believes is the South West’s first ever Cream Tea Festival.
The event will pit jam, cream and scone producers from across Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Dorset against each other in an all-important taste contest.
The Cream Tea festival will take place in Bideford Pannier Market and is being organised by the town’s council.
On the event website it says: “We’re pretty sure this is the first festival of its kind, and we want to make it bigger and better each year.
“This means having you on board and bringing with you whatever you, as a producer, contribute to the best cream tea.
“Whether its jam, cream, scones, chutney, cheese or even tea we would like you to be part of this festival.
“We are looking at producers from Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Dorset to join in.
“There is an edge to this festival as well – there is a competition element to it.”
The categories in the competition include:
- Best Devon Cream Tea
- Best Cornish Cream Tea
- Best savoury Cream Tea
- Best Presented Cream Tea
Booking is free and tables for producers are provided. They will be allocated on a ‘first come. first served’ basis.
