Five Tiger, the short film debut of South African writer and director Nomawonga Khumalo, will be screened at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival.
Set in the present day, it tells the story of Fiona, a god-fearing woman who finds herself in a transactional relationship with the leader of her church as she tries to support her sick husband and daughter.
Khumalo said she was over the moon on hearing about her selection for Sundance. “Beyond the joy of being able to tell stories that are important to me, there is a great pleasure that comes with knowing that the story resonated with the programmers of a festival as prestigious as Sundance.”
