It’s that time of year again when residents in Bothwell come together to celebrate their annual scarecrow festival.

Despite there being no parade or fun day, the community are still doing their best to bring some joy to the area during the coronavirus outbreak.

Over the years there have been some fabulous creations from residents – and once again the community has risen to the challenge.

There were some belters including the Kelpies (which we featured in the Hamilton Advertiser last week), along with some other cracking scarecrows. First Minister Nicola Sturgeon even made an appearance this year.

Joe Mulholland, scarecrow festival organiser, said: “The creator of the Kelpies structure has made lots of amazing scarecrows in the past including Mary Poppins, Dumbo, Toy Story and an Up scarecrow amongst others.

“Sadly all our events had to be cancelled this year but we were contacted by lots of enthusiastic scarecrow builders wanting to put on a display.

“If ever there was a time for giving folk a smile it’s now.

“The scarecrow team are also involved in SantaFest and plans are underway as to what we can do this year.

“It may be a Santa sleigh tour of the village to visit the children.

“We will keep everyone posted.”
