The Breeders, Talib Kweli to perform in REO TOWN

LANSING — A music festival in the city’s REO Town neighborhood has beefed up its 2019 lineup with a few national acts.

The Three Stacks Music Festival to be held June 22 will include headliners The Breeders and Talib Kweli along with 20 other acts.

“I think we really wanted to push the envelope a little bit and deliver a little bit of something for everyone,” said Nate Dorough, president and co-founder of Fusion Shows.

The Breeders, an alternative rock band from Dayton, Ohio, earned national acclaim in 1993 for their hit single “Cannonball.”

Talib Kweli, a hip hop artist from Brooklyn New York, has produced eight solo albums since 2002. He’s collaborated with several artists from a variety of music genres and is also considered a political activist.

Three Stacks will mark the first Lansing event for The Breeders and Kweli, according to the concert website

Last year marked Three Stacks’ first festival. Organizers didn’t meet their goal of 2,000 attendees but are optimistic this year because of the continued buzz surrounding REO Town’s economic and cultural development, Dorough said.

“It’s just cool to see people’s passions happening,” Dorough said.

Tickets for the festival are $40 each and will go on sale 10 a.m. Friday at

The festival will take place 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. June 22 within the 1100 block of South Washington Avenue.

Acts will perform on two outdoor stages on both ends of the block and inside The Robin Theater, 1105 S. Washington Ave.
