The Drop will return to Newcastle in March 2020 bringing with it an “all-star lineup of Aussie legends”.
Leading the lineup for the coastal chill and surf vibe music festival, back in Newcastle for a second year, is adored electronic duo The Presets and gentle indie rockers Boy & Bear.
Cult rapper Allday, grunge superstars DZ Deathrays, pop chanteuse Kita Alexander and glassy electro pioneer Graace round out the 2020 lineup.
The World Surf League-aligned tour is a “celebration of music, surf, community culture, and a love of the ocean”.
The Drop drew about 6000 attendees when it was held at King Edward Park in March to coincide with the penultimate day of the WSL contests Merewether Beach.
It was the first time the festival’s national tour included Newcastle.
Wet weather during the March festival turned parts of King Edward Park into a muddy pit that led neighbouring residents to say it was an inappropriate location to stage The Drop.
The Presets duo of Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes will lead the festival – a position they are well accustomed to having been well-known on Australia’s festival circuit since they lit up the music world with their chart-topping LP Apocalypso and hit single My People in 2008.
After firmly cementing themselves in the Australian music scene with a run of chart topping albums and hit singles including Southern Sun and Feeding Line, Boy & Bear were forced to take a four year hiatus due to serious health concerns. But now they are back and with a new album, Suck On Light.
Brisbane’s Ball Park Music are one of the most respected acts in the country. There is no doubt you have had one of their vibrant indie-rock anthems like She Only Loves Me When I’m There or It’s Nice To Be Alive stuck in your head.
With his recently released third album, Starry Night Over the Phone, Allday established himself as one of the most exciting and beloved rappers in Australia.
DZ Deathrays have released four records, won multiple ARIA Awards, toured the world countless times, supported The Foo Fighters and have even collaborated with Murray Cook, the original red Wiggle.
When she’s not surfing, Kita Alexander writes wistful, sophisticated pop songs that are never too far removed from the ocean.
Graace’s break came from collaborating with the the likes of Hayden James and Flight Facilities but she has since carved out her own space with tracks like Last Night and Numb racking up tens of millions of streams.
