In the annual lull that often seems to fall over the news cycle the weeks of Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve, one of two things happen in the world of journalism — either important stories are lost in the cracks or normally unimportant stories gain more exposure than they deserve. I think this one falls into the latter category, but maybe not for the reason many people would expect.
On Sunday, the U.N.’s World Health Organization (WHO) celebrated a new, progressive holiday, which it’s calling the International Day of Epidemic Preparedness.
The U.N. General Assembly sent out “invites” back in early December, according to the NY Post, with its “resolution proclaiming Dec. 27 as the International Day of Epidemic Preparedness to keep a global spotlight on the need to strengthen global measures to prevent pandemics like COVID-19.”
The resolution adopted Monday by consensus by the 193-member world body expresses “grave concern at the devastating impacts of major infectious diseases and epidemics, as exemplified by the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, on human lives.”
And much like Washington, D.C.’s made-up “Dr. Anthony Fauci Day” on Christmas Eve, it was an exercise in self-congratulation for Fauci’s fellow China virus cult members for the way it’s handled the Chinese virus. And incredibly, the WHO wants you to know they told you so.
Wait, what? It started out normally enough, with this from the WHO chief, Dr.Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus:
“History tells us that this will not be the last pandemic, and epidemics are a fact of life,” said Tedros.
But take a listen to what else Director-General Tedros and another of the WHO members said.
Here’s more from Tedros: (emphasis added)
“….[N]one of this should come as a surprise. Over the years, there have been many reports, reviews, and recommendations all saying the same thing: the world is not prepared for a pandemic.
The pandemic has highlighted the intimate links between the health of humans, animals and planet.
Any efforts to improve human health are doomed unless they address the critical interface between humans and animals, and the existential threat of climate change that’s making our earth less habitable.
Today is the first ever International Day of Epidemic Preparedness. In the past 12 months, lives and livelihoods have been turned upside down by #COVID19. But over the years @WHO and our partners have warned that the world is not prepared for a pandemic.pic.twitter.com/lZiUD41S3U

And there’s this bigtime slam from Dr. Mike Ryan, calling anyone in prosperous (read: capitalist) nations essentially racist and suffering from white privilege — and guilty of killing people, of course, since we don’t implement socialized medicine:
“It’s not just #COVID19 that is killing people,
it’s lack of access,
it’s years of living with health conditions that haven’t been properly managed because of the colour of your skin, or your ethnicity, or your social group”- @DrMikeRyan #HealthForAll pic.twitter.com/FCdEi3TGt5

Which leads me to ask this rhetorical question: What if the UN threw a “COVID party,” and nobody showed up? Because that’s what junk like this progressive fantasy fodder deserves.
But did you notice what wasn’t mentioned as a cause for the pandemic? China, or the Chinese Communist Party’s reckless decisions in the early days and weeks of the Wuhan outbreak.
This “holiday” serves a just one more reminder that the UN is positively schizophrenic about China, when it denounces the totalitarian regime for sending a Chinese citizen journalist to prison for reporting on the Wuhan coronavirus, but it’s full steam ahead on January 1, 2021, for them to join the international body’s Human Rights Council:
One week from tomorrow, a man who herded 1 million Uighurs into camps, jails human rights activists, crushed Tibet, disappeared courageous men and women who sounded the alarm on the coronavirus, and suffocated freedom in Hong Kong will join the U.N.’s highest human rights body. pic.twitter.com/j4iSBOOnlk
