You say live action, I say animation: on a cultural landscape roamed by photorealistic singing lions, it’s fair to say the dividing line between the two mediums is no longer particularly clean-cut. Yet the very best animated films still often feel as if they would be otherwise unfilmable – their plots couldn’t have imaginably unfolded in another format, or images been coaxed from anything other than a blank sketchpad. 

Children of the Sea, from Studio 4°C and director Ayumu Watanabe, is just such a project – a surging tsunami-crash of creativity and beauty that leaves you gulping…
