The Owego Strawberry Festival will celebrate its 39th year this with a “Strawberry Legends” theme, nodding to the 50th anniversary of Woodstock.
The annual festival, hosted by the Historic Owego Marketplace, sees about 20,000 visitors each year.
Here’s everything you need to know about this year’s festival.
When is it?
The festival will be held from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, with fireworks at 10 p.m.
It will resume at 9 a.m. Sautrday, concluding at 5 p.m.
What’s this year’s theme?
The band’s lineup includes John Platania, formerly of Van Morrison; Miss Marie, who has performed with the likes of Levon Helm, Rick Danko and the Commander Cody band; and Professor Louie, former member of The Band, who performed at the original Woodstock event in Bethel 50 years ago.
Also performing with Professor Louie & The Crowmatix is Gary Burke, drummer and percussionist with The Radio City Music Hall Orchestra. Burke has also performed with Bob Dylan’s The Rolling Thunder Review, and has recorded and toured extensively with Joe Jackson.

The festival is also welcoming several bands performing covers from the Woodstock era.
What other attractions are there?
There will be hundreds of vendors, over 20 bands, and a return of the dinosaurs, which were a favorite at last year’s festival.
New this year will be superheroes, and the festival will also welcomes the Stop That Game Truck, who will be set up on Park Street on Saturday.
Returning is the Strawberry Fest 5K and Kids Run, and the annual Strawberry Fest Pageant, hosted by Angel Face Pageants.
All of this entertainment, free to guests, is made possible through the support of the event sponsors.
What streets will be blocked?
During the festival, some streets will be closed and detours will be in place.
This year, Park Street in Owego will be added to the roads scheduled for closure during the festival. A closed off Church Street on Friday evening will also allow for motorcycle parking to the event, for those that are riding in.
The following streets will be closed Friday.
- At 4 p.m., Lake Street between Main Street and Front Street
- At 4 p.m., Front Street between Church Street and Academy Street
- At 4 p.m., Court Street between Main Street and Front Street
- At 4 p.m., Church Street between Main Street and Front Street
- At 5 p.m., Academy Street, William Street and Front Street between William and Academy Street will be closed.
- At 8 p.m., Park Street will close until the conclusion of the fireworks.
Fireworks are scheduled to start at 10p.m. At that time, Court Street Bridge and Front Street from Court Street to Academy Street will be closed to all traffic until conclusion of the festival.
Additional street closings, detours and traffic patterns will take place on Saturday beginning at 6 a.m. and continuing throughout the day. Drivers seek alternate route to avoid delays.
