RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – The city of Reno will kick off a weeklong Winter Light Festival beginning Saturday. The inaugural festival will have a series of holiday events which will offer the community a number of free family-friendly activities.
Arts Culture and Events Manager Alexis Hill said the Winter Light Festival is also celebrated worldwide throughout the winter season.
Hill said, “We were inspired by other cities and wanted to bring some holiday cheer to downtown.” She added, “We are so excited about highlighting our beautiful downtown, to really get people to come downtown and see how great it is. That was a really major reason why we wanted to do it.”
During the event people can experience a handful of activities like ice skating, a tree lighting event, and pictures with Santa. Hill said the city will also showcase several art displays. “The Arts and Culture Commission has worked with four different artists to bring their incredible artwork to Wingfield Park and the Harrah’s Plaza,” said Hill.
She continued, “We have so many incredible local artists that we wanted to make sure to highlight them and support them especially during the holiday season.”
The city will kick off the event with a Tree Lighting Ceremony on the City Plaza Saturday.
